Dr. Sher Banu A.L. Khan is a faculty member in the Malay Studies Department at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She holds an Honours degree in History and a Master’s in Southeast Asian Studies. She further pursued an advanced Master’s degree at Leiden University, Netherlands, before earning her Ph.D. from Queen Mary, University of London. Her doctoral thesis, titled "Rule Behind the Silk Curtain: The Sultanahs of Aceh 1641-1699," explores the historical role of female rulers in Aceh. Her research focuses on Southeast Asian history, gender, and political authority in the Malay world.
